Hunter Consultancy Services were appointed as Principal Designer for a new bakery line and machinery upgrade at Gunstones Bakery in North East Derbyshire. Forming part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, this live site produces an array of baked goods for some of the nation’s favourite high street retailers.
Working collaboratively with the client, the Hunter Consultancy Team supported Gunstones with the pre-construction phase of the new bakery line, ensuring compliance with the CDM 2015 Regulations.
The aim of the upgrade to ‘Bake 4’ was to increase the capacity of the line, in order to maintain cost effectiveness, increase efficiencies and fulfill supply chain demands.
Bake 4 has not been fully operational for several years. It had key operational design issues leading to a loss of efficiency and capacity for the client. Engineering downtime was also high, requiring additional resources for operation.
The new production line has been designed to include a proofer, upgraded oven, a robot de-panner, an automated pan washing system, a pan inline magazine, a spiral cooler for the finished product and a flow wrapper.
Hunter Safety Solutions were also appointed into the role of Principal Contractor, dealing with the facilitation of the machinery upgrade, the management of contractors to achieve best practice standards and effective traffic management. The team also developed and implemented a pro-active safety culture on site, training key staff and equipping them with the tools needed to achieve excellence moving forward.
In addition, Hunter Safety Solutions were asked to manage Covid compliance for both staff and contractors alike, ensuring safe working could be maintained. Social distancing policies and procedures have been put in place, alongside mechanisms to keep the site running effectively for the client.
