Stand-Down for Mental Health Across Hunter Sites

Workers across construction sites in the UK and Europe have taken part in a safety stand-down to discuss mental wellbeing.

The campaign named ‘Stop. Make a Change.’, supported by CITB, saw Hunter’s site safety managers encouraging workers to down tools for a toolbox talk, discussing the triggers and signs of mental health issues, as well as providing a list of where workers could refer anybody to if they have concerns about a colleague.

Campaign organiser the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) said the aim across the construction sector was to increase awareness and share the best practice that has been developed more widely in this area.

Contracts Manager, Luke Hunt, has encouraged the team at Hunter Safety to commit to the campaign. He said: “The Hunter team have committed to supporting the campaign with many of our clients, contractors and employees having been exposed to the triggers and factors that contribute to mental health issues.”

A CDM Manager, who had delivered the talk, added: “The material and content was well received, it’s not an easy subject for contractors to admit to taking seriously and at first it was taken light-heartedly, however it got everybody talking about their own experiences and quickly became a serious discussion point.”
